Southdown Steps

About the Service

Southdown Steps provides accommodation, housing management and tenancy support for people who have been homeless or living in temporary or supported accommodation, including hostels. The service is suitable for those who are ready to move into self-contained accommodation and require support and stability before moving on to  longer-term independent housing.

The service can offer accommodation and support for up to nine people from the Adur and Worthing area.

Southdown Steps is funded via Homes England as part of Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) Rough Sleeping Accommodation Programme (RSAP), working in partnership with Adur & Worthing Councils.

How the service works

Southdown’s Resettlement Support Officers are based on-site at the accommodation Monday to Friday, during daytime office hours.

Resettlement Support Officers will support each client within their accommodation , offering personalised, strength-based, and trauma-informed support to:

  • Develop independent living skills to sustain their tenancy
  • Achieve their move on goals and secure future independent housing
  • Increase participation in their community such as taking part in leisure activities and joining local groups
  • Access specialist support services
  • Maintain and improve their mental health and wellbeing
  • Identify and utilise positive coping strategies and self-management tools

In addition, each client will be allocated a named Housing Officer to respond to and oversee any routine Housing Management tasks and repairs.

Eligibility

The service is available to adults aged 18 years or older in need of assistance with housing due to a history or potential risk of homelessness. This includes people currently residing in supported accommodation, emergency accommodation, or sleeping rough.
