Housing Brokerage Service (Sussex)
Having a safe place to live is proven to reduce the likelihood of people reoffending.
Working with the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Community Rehabilitation Company (KSS CRC), the Housing Brokerage Service supports people using probation services to secure and sustain suitable accommodation.
The service is part of KSS CRC’s My Solution Rehabilitation Programme (MSRP) which provides a range of rehabilitation services to help support a crime free future.

Information for referrers:
At this stage of the Covid-19 pandemic, our Housing Brokerage servicve is still taking referrals and processing these in the usual way.
All our staff are equipped to work remotely and those who are available to work, will continue to provide support. The majority of support will be delivered via telephone, email, messaging and other electronic means.
Where face-to-face support is absolutely essential, in agreement with managers, staff will endeavour to provide this, whilst following stringent social distancing and infection control measures.
All face-to-face meetings, both external and internal have been cancelled, in line with government guidance, but all working staff are contactable via email and phone as per usual.
This is an evolving situation and we will adapt to emerging need as this develops, and keep you updated on our service offer and operation.
If you have any queries, please feel free to get in touch with Roland Williams to discuss by calling 07827 968840 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
How the service works
Housing Brokerage staff supplement the support KSS CRC’s Responsible Officers provide. They provide intensive support to help KSS CRC service users ensure their accommodation is available when they are released from prison or to support those without settled accommodation to understand their housing options, find appropriate housing and know their rights and responsibilities as tenants.
The average duration of support is 12 to 16 weeks. For individuals subject to custodial sentences, support will start three months prior to release (or shorter where the sentence is below three months). In agreement with Responsible Officers, resettlement support may be offered to those who move to accommodation in Sussex for four weeks after their release.
The Housing Brokerage Service has a team of six Housing Brokerage Officers, a Housing Advice Officer and a Team Manager. Housing Brokerage Officers are co-located within KSS CRC regional community offices (Brighton, Worthing and Eastbourne/Hastings) as well as HMP Ford and HMP Lewes.
Referrals are made by KSS CRC Responsible Officers.
The Housing Brokerage Service is available to people using KSS CRC’s probation service who have complex housing needs or require intensive support to resolve their housing issues. The service is eligible to:
- KSS CRC service users who are on a community order or suspended sentence order, or
- Individuals subject to a custodial sentence who are due for release within 12 weeks
