Southdown named as a leading employer for families - again!

Family Friendly Award 2019

For the eighth year in a row, Southdown has been named as one of the top ten family-friendly employers in the UK for our approach to promoting and supporting wellbeing at work and work-life balance.
Receiving the hotly-contested accolade at the National Work Life Week conference in London, Southdown was named among the Top 10 Employers for Working Families, joining a list that also includes American Express, Public Health England, the Ministry of Justice and the National Assembly for Wales.
The prestigious award, decided by Working Families, the leading work-life organisation in the UK, follows our recognition as a Disability Confident Employer and a Mindful Employer.
Southdown has already been awarded the Gold Standard by Investors in People until 2020, putting us in the top 2% of companies assessed on their people management and demonstrating our commitment to high performance through investing in our employees.
Vikki Hayward-Cripps, Deputy Chief Executive at Southdown, who leads on employee engagement, says, “Being placed in the Top 10 in the UK for the 8th year running shows our continuing commitment to helping our employees achieve a good balance between work and home lives. We know that most of our staff have personal caring responsibilities and we understand how important accommodating their lifestyle and responsibilities can be.

This is an exciting time to be part of Southdown, with the launch of new specialist mental health and learning disability services joining our wide range of existing services for vulnerable people across Sussex. The exceptional effort and commitment of our staff is key to those initiatives and our support for our people is a crucial underpinning for what they do for our clients. We want to attract, retain and reward their invaluable contribution by being a truly inclusive and supportive employer.”

The award report found that creating a cultural attitude towards flexibility is the most important issue for organisations that want to reach the highest standards, and said that almost two-thirds of employers said that addressing their gender pay gap is their biggest opportunity for developing work-life balance in the coming year.

Southdown employs more than 950 people across a range of homelessness prevention, mental health, housing, and learning disability services in Sussex. We are currently recruiting for a number of job vacancies. Visit our Jobs page for more information.
