“Art can help you express your pain, but also switch it off"

Preston Park Recovery Centre Client

You’re surrounded by people with similar problems and at different stages of recovery. And a lot of the trainers have lived experience, that’s been great.

Art can help you express your pain, but also switch it off.

I only started creating art in the last year. I started my first piece at an art drop-in in June 2015. To me it was significant because it was the first thing I did. It meant a lot. It was amazing when someone looked at it and knew what I felt.

I’ve had depression for most of my life. I started coming here early summer and I had to take time off work. The art room is always open. It’s so engaging.

It’s been fantastic for me – it’s given me art.
