"I gave up on life. Listening to my keyworker has made me want to live again"

Community Links Client

I’ve had tremendous help from Community Links. All the keyworkers I’ve had have been perfect. They support me. They talk to me. The support from Southdown is the only support I get. I depend on it a lot.

I first got involved with Community Links through my psychiatrist. It was for help with housing and just to live really, you know. I was very suicidal.

My keyworker has fixed me with some counselling – I start my first session next week. I’ve been trying to get counselling for a long time. This time things are different – and a lot of that is to do with Southdown. I don’t think I’d be alive, twice, without them.

I gave up on life, I didn’t want to live no more. Listening to my keyworker has made me want to live again.

It’s like a battle, a wicked battle. The depression is hard. I take a lot of tablets. I’ve had depression since I was a kid. It’s never been dealt with properly. I have two personality disorders as well. My mental health at the moment is okay.

I don’t know what I’d have done without these services. The doctors just want to throw tablets at me.

I have a problem expressing myself. I’d like to be able to express myself, to sit down and talk to people.

I just got online two months ago. It’s strange and difficult. Getting sorted out is the most important thing in my life. Being online is part of that. Like reading and writing.

I started to paint and decorate my council flat too – that’s through encouragement from my keyworkers - so people can come and visit. I hadn’t been out of the house for five years, but my keyworker helped me. It’s making me feel I have something to live for.

I can see a life now.
