"It’s a place I want to spend time in. It’s a place I want to come back to. It’s my own place"

Independent Living Scheme Client

The scheme has been helpful in getting me ready here. I have had my downtimes whilst I’ve been with the scheme and when I’ve been ill I’ve been able to increase the contact with my Floating Support Officer (FSO).

I’ve wanted to live on my own for a long time and do it properly.

I had the money saved up and I’ve been able to buy things for it. It’s a place I want to spend time in. It’s a place I want to come back to. It’s my own place.

It’s got my man cave – with my telly, my blue ray player and my recliner, my comfy recliner! In my dreams, I’d have a whole room as a man cave – with at least a triple screen with probably more than one computer in it!

IT is my passion. I’m a big geek! IT and science fiction. That’s my next project – to build my own computer.

I was in a shared house that had support. The scheme has been helpful in getting me ready here. I have had my downtimes whilst I’ve been with the scheme and when I’ve been ill I’ve been able to increase the contact with my Floating Support Officer (FSO).

The flexibility of the scheme means I’ve had support if I needed it. It’s brilliant. Having the flexibility of not seeing my FSO every week has meant I can do other things such as go to an art group and the wellbeing café.

We’re looking at ending the support at the end of next month and I feel okay about that. There’s a drop-in I can attend and I have other support too.

My FSO has put me in touch with Buddys, a café run by the local Mencap, and I’m going to start volunteering there. I want to get back into work and my social life is getting better.
