"Coaching and listening are key to what I do. I coach clients to find solutions to their challenges and to help them find support"

Community Wellbeing Advisor

Change is a really frightening thing for some people. They have to be ready. My aim is for clients to recognise and achieve goals that will enable them to move forward and away from anxiety and stress.

So often people don’t have the opportunity to be heard.

Coaching and listening are key to what I do as a Community Wellbeing Advisor. I coach clients to find solutions to their challenges and to help them find support.

We work in partnership with GPs to provide Social Prescribing to support people with mental health challenges. GPs will refer patients to me and I look behind the initial medical problem they are presented with and see if there is a community, wellbeing or social solution.

Change is a really frightening thing for some people. They have to be ready. My aim is for clients to recognise and achieve goals that will enable them to move forward and away from anxiety and stress.

Opening their eyes to opportunities, encouraging, listening and coaching them is so important. We can help give back their confidence and empower our clients.

Sometimes clients come to me in tears as they describe the problem, so I give them space as they need it. As their story unravels, I think about what this service can do for them. I sit and listen and wait for the client to indicate what they want.

Aspiration is what I want for every single person I see. If we had no aspiration, why would we get up every day?

The Community Wellbeing Service provides Social Prescribing to support people with mental health challenges in Hastings. The Social Prescribing model links patients with non-clinical specialist services in the community to enable them to get practical help in many different areas, including advice with housing and benefits, and to connect them with social activities to help improve their wellbeing.
