Substance Misuse Employment Service
About the service
The Substance Misuse Employment Service supports people receiving structured treatment for drug and alcohol dependence who are looking to find, return to, or retain paid employment.
The service is delivered by Southdown in partnership with Change Grow Live (CGL).
Employment can play a vital role in recovery by improving confidence, wellbeing, financial independence, and reducing the risk of relapse.
How support is provided?
Support is delivered through Individual Placement and Support (IPS), an evidence-based employment model that supports people to find and retain paid employment while receiving treatment and recovery support.
IPS is based on a Zero Exclusion approach, meaning anyone who wants to work can access support regardless of their circumstances or stage of recovery. Employment Specialists partnership work alongside Recovery Workers as part of a multi-disciplinary team, providing personalised support based on each person’s skills, strengths, interests, and career goals.
Support may include:
- Career planning and job searching
- CV and application support
- Interview preparation
- Welfare benefits advice
- Employer engagement and job matching
- Ongoing in-work support for both employees and employers
Supporting Employers
We work closely with employers to understand their recruitment needs and match them with suitable candidates. Our support continues after employment begins, providing guidance and practical assistance to both employers and employees to help sustain successful, long-term employment outcomes.
Am I eligible?
Support is available for people aged 18 or over, living in East Sussex who are receiving structured treatment from Change Grow Live.
