Salary: £34,811 - £37,501 per year, plus £1000 essential car user allowance

Promoting a healthy workplace and positive health and safety culture is fundamental to doing things the Southdown way and we are looking for someone to join our People Safety team as the H&S Practitioner.

The work will involve engaging with a wide range of stakeholders to ensure legal compliance and provide advice, support and guidance for staff to deliver a safe environment for all, through a collaborative, person centred and pragmatic approach to health and safety.

This role will report into the Senior People Safety Lead and provide technical health and safety advice, to support our diverse, multi-site organisation. It will require travel across Brighton & Hove and East and West Sussex, so being a driver with access to a car for work is essential.

Key functions will include:

  • Leading on accident / incident management, including investigations where required, and providing advice on risk reduction to prevent recurrence.
  • Providing technical advice and support on health & safety matters.
  • Supporting the completion of risk assessments, including DSE, Manual Handling, Maternity etc. and the implementation of suitable control measures to provide safe systems of work.
  • Developing health & safety related strategies, policies and procedures.
  • Participating in key local health & safety meetings.
  • Supporting the provision of performance data to organisational and local management.
  • Leading on projects to enhance our safety management system.
  • Undertaking internal audits to identify remedial actions and support their completion.
