Southdown celebrated as Top 30 employer for Working Families
Posted on 26 September 2025
We are delighted to announce that Southdown has been recognised as one of the UK’s Top 30 Employers for Working Families by the leading work-life balance charity. This prestigious recognition places us alongside some of the country’s most respected organisations, including Aviva, EY, Lloyds Banking Group, and Unilever.
The Working Families Benchmark reveals that 86% of top employers now carry out job analysis to determine flexibility options, and 94% actively encourage their managers to work flexibly. At Southdown, these aren’t just statistics, they’re practices we’ve embedded into our daily operations because we believe they make us stronger as an organisation, rooted in our values.
Flexibility and support at our core
“We are incredibly proud to be recognised as one of the top 30 organisations for Working Families,” says Eve Clennell, Head of People and Experience. “At Southdown, flexible working is embedded into our culture. We understand that there is no ‘one size fits all’ approach, which is why we’ve made flexibility the default.”

This recognition reflects our genuine commitment to supporting our people through innovative workplace practices. Nearly half of our staff benefit from flexible arrangements that work for them and their personal commitments – from part-time hours and job shares to compressed weeks and hybrid working.
Our success stems from a simple but powerful approach: listening to our employees’ needs and empowering them with the resources and support to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Whether it’s giving team members the freedom to choose their rotas where applicable, or ensuring they aren’t expected to work beyond their regular hours, flexibility is at the heart of how we operate.
Building an inclusive Southdown
We are particularly proud of our ‘This is us’ framework, which drives our commitment to equality, equity, diversity, and inclusion, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Together with our employee networks and employee-designed values, we’re building a workplace where everyone feels supported, valued, and able to reach their full potential.
Thank you to our teams
This achievement belongs to every single person at Southdown who contributes to making our organisation a supportive, inclusive, and empowering place to work. As we always say, we aim to be ‘Brilliant with people,’ and this recognition highlights how our approach creates positive ripple effects – for our employees, the people we support, and the communities we serve.
